Students from across HRUC (Harrow, Uxbridge and Richmond Colleges) celebrated their success at a series of award evenings earlier this month.

The awards brought together students, their families, guests, and college staff to recognise their incredible hard work and achievements throughout the 2025/26 academic year.

Over 70 student awards were given out across three events – at Richmond upon Thames College on 1 July, Uxbridge College on 2 July, and Harrow College on 8 July.

Hard work, dedication and commitment

At Richmond, 23 winners received awards for their hard work, dedication and commitment. Hosted by Principal Gavin Hughes, attendees included the Mayor of Richmond Councillor Nancy Baldwin and the Leader of Richmond upon Thames Council Councillor Gareth Roberts.

The Richmond Student of the Year accolade was awarded to Dance student Jemima Baker, who was recognised for her exceptional achievements, dedication and personal development. Jemima is now heading off to Urdang City St George’s, University of London to continue pursuing her passion for dance.

She said: “I feel really proud; this is a big achievement for me! It shows just how much my teachers and the staff at the College believe in me and are there to support students. The opportunities available to me at RuTC have helped me secure a place at my dream university.”

At the Uxbridge ceremony, held on campus for the first time, 28 winners received awards. Over 150 guests attended the event hosted by Clive Hodge, Principal of Uxbridge College, including the Mayor of Hillingdon Councillor Reeta Chamdal.

One of the most prestigious accolades, the Uxbridge Principal’s Award, was presented to Level 3 Health and Social Care student Nigel Nkomo, who has proved to be an inspiring role model for his peers.

Nigel said: “I am very happy to receive this award as my hard work has paid off and the teachers have recognised me.”

Celebrating the extraordinary

Finally, at Harrow, a total of 28 students received awards celebrating their extraordinary success. Hosted by Jo Swindells, Principal of Harrow College, the evening took place at Harrow Arts Centre and brought together over 100 guests including the Mayor of Hillingdon Councillor Yogesh Teli.

The Greatest Contribution to College Life award at Harrow went to two students, Sidrah Esaf and Leo Gilby, who were recognised for their outstanding and consistent achievements throughout their time at the College.

Sidrah said: “I have had a lot of achievements, but one of my proudest was being the College President. I knew I had the team leader and leadership skills in me and being the President helped me showcase it.”

Leo said: "It made me feel really happy that all my hard work has finally paid off.”

Whether students were recognised for their academic success, overcoming personal challenges, or embracing student life, the awards brought the HRUC community together to commend all their achievements.

Dylan McTaggart, Group Executive Principal at HRUC, said: “Our annual student awards are one of the highlights of my year. They offer a valuable opportunity to celebrate and thank our amazing students for all their hard work and contributions to college life. It’s always a privilege to hear their extraordinary stories and see them take their first steps into their bright futures. Congratulations to all the winners.”
