There was a huge buzz around Harrow, Richmond and Uxbridge Colleges’ Uxbridge campus on 16 April as we celebrated the talent, creativity and professional skills development of our extraordinary students who took part in our first-ever HRUC Skills Competition.
300 brilliant students from 3 Colleges
HRUC Skills Competition Week took place in February this year - bringing together 300 brilliant students from across our three colleges to compete in skills competitions in 20 different curriculum and subject areas.
From hospitality to health care, performing arts to plumbing, science to sport, construction to creative arts, engineering to digital and beyond, students were given a competition brief, with some set by industry contacts, and showcased their knowledge and abilities, stretching themselves to develop both technical and employability skills.
Judged by leading industry professionals, the competitions offered students a fantastic opportunity to shine – which they absolutely did!
Dream Big, Act Now and Never Give Up

Our competition winners were invited to join the awards ceremony and we were delighted to welcome Action Jackson as our host, who brought his incredible energy, inspiring our students, staff and guests with his message to "Dream Big, Act Now and Never Give Up."
The winning students joined Action Jackson on stage to be presented with their trophy and certificate from HRUC staff, some sharing their plans for their future careers and what being a student at Harrow, Richmond and Uxbridge Colleges meant to them.
It was truly inspiring.
The cup winner is.....
Alongside our students’ individual success there was also an inter-College competition with Uxbridge College gaining the most points and taking home the cup as the overall College winner on the night!
The celebration played an important role in recognising and developing the next generation of skilled professionals. Taking part in skills competitions provided our students with an opportunity to:
- Upskill
- Develop their abilities
- Showcase what they have learnt and
- Put it into practice.
Congratulations to all of our students, who represented their college with pride and showcased the skills, innovation and future talent within our student community.

Representing HRUC
It doesn’t stop there though, as some of our college competition winners also went on to represent HRUC at the prestigious Greater London Inter-College Skills Competition in March. They now have the opportunity to progress in further heats with an opportunity to compete for a place at the WorldSkills UK competitions!
We wish them all the best of luck and can’t wait to see how they get on.
