Foundation Apprenticeships

Big News! New Foundation Apprenticeships, More Opportunities

Harrow, Richmond & Uxbridge Colleges (HRUC) are thrilled to announce the launch of Foundation Apprenticeships – a brand-new pathway designed to open doors for young people aged 16–21 and others who need support accessing skilled careers. Even better? Employers and Providers receive a £2,000 incentive to hire a Foundation Apprentice!

Key features of a Foundation Apprenticeship

  • Develop new or secondary skill set: apprentices can do a foundation apprenticeship at the same or lower level than a qualification they already hold, if it develops new knowledge, skills and behaviours
  • Shorter duration: foundation apprenticeships are typically 8 months long
  • Non-mandatory assessment: Maths and English remain required, but the assessment is not mandatory before completion (though encouraged if appropriate)
  • Incentive payments: up to £2,000 in total is available to providers and employers for eligible learners, plus an additional £666 progression payment for those who go on to a higher-level apprenticeship.

Who’s eligible?

  • Young people aged 16–21
  • Some aged 22–24 (e.g young people with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) or care leavers).

Available Foundation Apprenticeships

HRUC are excited to offer the following foundation apprenticeships:

  • Building Services Engineering
  • Onsite Trades
  • Engineering and Manufacturing
  • Health and Social Care.

These new apprenticeships are designed to develop fresh skills, knowledge, and behaviours. This is a great opportunity for employers to invest in future talent, grow their workforce, and make a difference.

Please note: 8-month apprenticeships will officially launch once legislation changes to allow apprentice durations below 12 months. Starts on foundation apprenticeships will be allowed once an end-point assessment organisation (EPAO) obtains Ofqual recognition. We'll update you the moment this is confirmed.

Let’s grow the future of your workforce – together.
