“I found that the course gave me an insight into a lot of different things but I think the life experience I gained was the biggest part.

“My teachers at Uxbridge College always encouraged me to keep trying. Now I’m a police officer for Thames Valley Police and I love it.”

What is your favourite part of your job?

Harriett explained: “You don’t truly understand the variety of the job until you experience it yourself. You never know what job you’ll be going to or what situation you’ll be dealing with. You have to be open-minded, think on your feet and be prepared for anything.

“I genuinely believe it is the best job in the world. I heard so many people say that when I was in training, and at the time I didn’t fully understand it. Now that I’ve been doing the job, I can honestly say I understand what they meant.”

What advice would you give to someone considering a career in the police?

Harriett said: “If you’re someone who enjoys a challenge, wants every day to be different and wants a career where you can genuinely make a difference, I would definitely recommend considering it.”
