The winners of the National Innovation Challenge (NIC) 2026 are ready for an action-packed two weeks of inspiration and discovery in the US.

Shlok and Faithon from Uxbridge College, London, and Timothy, Ollie and Wojtek from St Bede’s Catholic High School in Ormskirk, Lancashire, are enjoying the once-in-a-lifetime trip as part of their prize for winning the NIC earlier this year.

The excitement started before they had even touched down, when they enjoyed exclusive access to the airplane cockpit.

Kicking off their trip with a visit to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the group’s first day in Boston included:

  • A welcome lunch and introduction to MIT
  • A visit to the Soft and Micro Robotics Laboratory, exploring cutting-edge developments in robotics
  • A visit to the iconic MIT Media Lab
  • A guided campus tour of MIT, taking in one of the world’s leading centres of research and innovation.

Led by HRUC (Harrow, Richmond and Uxbridge Colleges) in collaboration with the MIT Industrial Liaison Program, the NIC empowers young people to come up with exciting innovations for the future.

This year, students from secondary schools, colleges and sixth forms are invited to submit their projects on the theme of Tomorrow’s World.
